For years, scientists have observed, isolated and manipulated DNA from other species. This is the process known as genetic engineering, which we have studied over the last week. You have also completed the process yourself by making E. coli glow green. With this ability, scientists have generated many new products such as insulin for diabetes, fungus and drought resistant crops, and bacteria capable of ridding our planet of waste. With all of the knowledge you have accumulated, you will now need this knowledge to form an opinion.
Do you think scientists should use genetic engineering?

I'm sort of torn between using and not using genetic engineering. I beleive we should use it for things like curing genetic diseases. However, some people think it would be better to use it for something stupid like changing a child's eye color or the gender of the child. If people really focused on the possibilities of genetic engineering it could be the biggest asset to medical practices. Otherwise, its' all just a big joke.
I dont think we shouldnt use them because they work . and some change how we live.and it can effect someones life.
And we should use them to kill colds . and they can help kids from having vireses .

i think that God made us the way he wants us and we should not change the way he made us. We should be thankful for what he gave us to live with.Those are the reasons why i think that this is not a good idea.
I think that scientists should not use genetic engineering because they should not mess with peoples DNA. Combining things with people's DNA could end up in a disaster. They might end up seeing something they don't want to see. You should not be able to choose whether or not u want have a boy or a girl. You should not be able to choose what color eyes your baby will have.
I think that we should be able to keep our kids the way they are and not change anything evcept by taking out the "Genetic Disorder" gene out and then leave everthing else alone!!

In my opinion, genetic engineering is very interesting and I'd like to continue learning about it. People need to know how things operate and function, and genetic engineering is a great way to discover how living things are put together. Genetic engineering has allowed people to clearly understand DNA and it's role in living things.

I think that scientists should not use genetic engineering because it is not ok to some people. They should not observe, isolate or minipulate DNA from any species. Scientists should not take the DNA from animals so that they can clone them. When they use genetic engineering in crops, it can cause a widespread in crop failure. Scientists should not try to clone humans because to me it is against the law. They should not try to play god.
Hey everybody!! I think that scientists should continue to use genetic engineering. According to Benefits of Human Genetic Engineering, scientists have successfully found many uses of this and I think it is really neat how they’ve done it. Many scientist use genetic engineering find genetic defects in pregnant women, which I believe is very helpful to the mother of the child, the child, and the family. Another benefit of genetic engineering is the creation pharmaceutical products. Everybody needs medicine in some point in their life. That’s another reason why I think that scientists should continue to do what they are doing.
Is it fair to other people who have genetic disorders, are starving or need medication to not use the technology to improve their lives. What if we could rid the planet more quickly of different watses by gentically modifying bacteria or plants?
I wouldnt be bad to use genetic engineering on crops as it would be on humans. The only bad part about that is whether or not using those crops would hurt us as humans.

I completely agree with faye, genetic engineering, when taken seriously, is a big thing and could be used for many things that will benefit for the good. On the other hand, it could be used for pointless actions, which defeats its purpose.
I agree with Gilberto....... Anything involving Genetic Engineering shouldnt be allowed. Crop failure could occur if one thing goes wrong, which it usually does.
I do not agree with genetic engineering and think we shouldnt do it.
1.Who knows what will happen if we tweak our DNA.
2.If something bad happens we probablly couldnt fix it.

I dont think that we should practice genetic engineering. People need 2 stop trying to be God. He made us that way that He wanted us to be and we need to stop trying to change that. It is a miracle that it is possible to change things like gender and eye color before birth but just because it is possible doesnt mean we should do it. I also believe that it is wrong to use animal testing for this subject. They are living creatures to and sometimes things can go wrong.

I also am torn between useing and not useing Genetic Engineering. It has potential to be used for good and bad. And I also agree that people should be happy the was God made them. I have mixed feelings on the decision of genetic engineering, mainly because of the side effects that could occur. I believe it could be a good thing because it could help cure diseases or help find a cure for disease, while on the other hand, instead of curing, it could worsen the disease. Another benefit of genetic engineering is that when paired with plants and other food, it could help the food to produce more rapidly, thus possibly ending world hunger. Although the plants may grow at a faster rate, it could possibly poison or defect the plants, making them unedible. Another benefit of genetically modified foods is that they could help provide more nutrients in the food than non-genetically modified foods. A setback is that the food could cause harm to the person , or even infect them with a disease. Therefore, if I had to decide if it is right or wrong, I would say that it would be wrong to do.
